Lenovo to Make Smartphones in India
August 19, 2015

Following in the footsteps of competitors, Lenovo also plans to make smartphones in India, outside the southeastern city of Chennai for both Lenovo and Motorola brands, reported Bloomberg on August 18. The company has signed a manufacturing contract with electronics firm Flextronics to set up a new facility, which is expected to churn out 6 million smartphone units per year, with most of the outputs serving the Indian market. At present, Lenovo has already begun production of its Moto E model in India. Approximately 30% of components will be purchased from local suppliers.
